Southern Aroma is a South African bred aroma, daylight neutral hop whose pedigree is a diploid seedling originating from Saaz and Hallertauer Mettelfreuh crossing.

The aroma profile includes floral, fields of flowers, woody/spicy, and fruity.  Total oil content is around 0.6 to 0.8 percent, alpha acids range from 3 to 6 percent, and cohumulone is very low at about 16 to 22 percent.

A hop with classic noble hop character and a fruity South African terroir backdrop.  Works well with classic European and English styles where traditional noble hops may be used, but also hop forward beers of American and Belgian origins.  Possible similar hops: Motueka.

    NZ Pilsner

Posted by Unknown on 23rd Apr 2019

Used in a NZ Pilsner along with Saaz and Pacific Jade, added at whirlpool for 20 minutes. Got a general fruity character along with white wine grapes and wild flowers. Aroma is a little sweetness on top of the Pilsner malt. A good hop but not one I’d use again in a Pilsner.
